The Binerie Mont-Royal
La Binerie Mont-Royal – Historic Quebec Restaurant
Founded in 1938 by Léonide Lussier, La Binerie Mont-Royal is a true Montreal culinary institution. Established for 81 years on the legendary Mont-Royal Avenue, this iconic restaurant celebrates traditional Quebec cuisine in its most authentic and generous form. Renowned for its Quebecois regional dishes, La Binerie Mont-Royal offers comforting home-style cooking: roast pork, traditional stew, bacon, cretons (pork spread), shepherd's pie, poutine, not to mention its signature dish. Every year, more than 32 tons of baked beans are prepared there according to traditional recipes, making La Binerie a must-visit destination for Quebecois cuisine in Montreal. A place steeped in history and culture. Beyond its cuisine, La Binerie Mont-Royal is a historic place deeply rooted in Montreal culture. The establishment served as the setting for the famous novel and film *Le Matou* by Yves Beauchemin, contributing to its cultural renown. Over the decades, many prominent figures have left their mark there, including Camilien Houde, former mayor of Montreal, and hockey legend Maurice "Rocket" Richard, who counted La Binerie among their favorite haunts. A tradition that continues. On November 17, 2005, Jocelyne Gingras and Philippe Brunet became the proud owners of La Binerie Mont-Royal. Driven by a passion for authentic Quebec cuisine and a desire to offer a unique culinary experience, they proudly continue the legacy of this Montreal institution. Today, Ms. Gingras is at the helm in the kitchen, while Philippe Brunet and their son Jean-Philippe provide warm and welcoming service, true to the restaurant's original spirit.
